Patentrim is a
combination appetite suppressant and weight
loss supplement. As you might guess from the
name, Patentrim contains a number of
patented ingredients to supposedly help you
trim down.
Unfortunately, this product has a number of drawbacks. For one thing, taking 8 of these pills a day, as is recommended, may be difficult for most people. For another, this product is more expensive than many other diet pills. You could very likely obtain most of these patented ingredients separately for a much lower price. And last, but not least, I didn't see any customer feedback or even testimonials on their website to verify their claims.

Phenocal, by Pharmaxa
Labs, contains a long list of both appetite
suppressant and weight loss ingredients,
some of which have been quite
well-researched. Unfortunately, they were
not provided in quantities high enough to
guarantee effectiveness. Many of the
ingredients need at least twice as much as
provided here to truly work. And Hoodia, the
best appetite suppressant in the mix, is
only effective when it is 100% pure South
African Hoodia Gordonii. I don't see any
CITES certificates or other verification of
its purity in this product. Moreover, this
product contains the stimulant Yerba Mate,
which may raise blood pressure and increase
heart rate among other health safety risks.
We feel it is best to stick to non-stimulant
weight loss alternatives, whenever possible.

SlimShots Appetite
Controller offers a unique delivery system
for appetite suppression in a small
container about the size of a little coffee
creamer. They claim their product has been
"proven" to increase satiety, but if you
look into it, SlimShots itself was not even
tested, only a "yogurt" with similar
ingredients. Plus, this product only
consists of two "main" ingredients, joined
by additives such as natural and artificial
flavoring, coloring and aspartame, a
controversial sweetener with a host of
health risks.
This liquid product may be an alternative for those who find it difficult to take pills, though I've seen customer reviews that say it tastes terrible.

Cravex, a popular
supplement by Natrol, is touted as both a
natural appetite controller and carbohydrate
controller. It contains several well-studied
ingredients common to weight loss
supplements, and they did at least provide
quantity information. However, it appears
that many of these ingredients are not
provided in substantial enough quantities
proven for effectiveness. This product also
contains caffeine, a nervous system
stimulant that may lead to nervousness,
jittery feelings, and possible health safety
risks, especially for the heart. We do not
recommend using supplements with caffeine if
non-stimulant alternatives are available.

Apatrim from
PatentHealth uses the clever slogan of
"willpower in a bottle." Supposedly, the
only active ingredient in Apatrim is an
extract of Caralluma fimbriata, a cactus
native to India used to suppress appetite.
Unfortunately, we are unable to report just
how much of the active ingredient is
actually provided, or if it is provided in a
sufficient quantity for effectiveness. We
also do not know what else might be in
Apatrim. None of this information is
available for this product. We would
recommend obtaining this information before
actually consuming it.

We have included Meridia
simply because it is one of the most
prescribed appetite suppressants by doctors.
Produced by Knoll Pharmaceutical, Meridia is
the trade name of a drug called sibutramine
hydrochloride monohydrate, which is a
serotonin-norepinephrine re-uptake
inhibitor.
Like most toxic pharmaceutical drugs, Meridia comes with a slew of unpleasant, if not downright dangerous, side effects. These may include: nausea, constipation, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, abnormal vision, insomnia, joint or muscle pain, difficulty urinating, increased blood pressure, heart arrhythmias and even seizures. Just not worth it!

Adipex-P (generic name:
phentermine) is a prescription-only appetite
suppressant drug. It is commonly prescribed
for short term treatment of serious obesity.
However, the drug phentermine is similar to
an amphetamine and stimulates the central
nervous system. Serious heart and lung
problems have been reported when it was
combined with fenfluramine (no longer
available.)
As is common with most pharmaceutical drugs, it also comes with a long list of potential side effects which include: elevated blood pressure, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, insomnia, impotence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth, headache, anxiety, confusion, dizziness and tremors, just to name a few. It is also habit-forming and may provoke withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue and depression when use is terminated. We recommend steering well clear of this one.
