Curb Your Cravings takes the current media buzz about the use of Hoodia gordonii diet pills as an appetite suppressant, and puts it into a skin-based delivery system, or patch. They claim their Hoodia Diet Patch is the "#1 Weight Loss Supplement in the World." (Oh, if I had a dime for every time I’ve seen that!)
Yes, Hoodia gordonii diet pills have been scientifically proven to suppress appetite. But there are three questions you need to ask about this product: 1) do they use 100% Real Certified South African Hoodia, the only kind truly proven effective, 2) can Hoodia be effectively absorbed through the skin, and 3) do they use an effective amount of Hoodia?
To question number 1, this company claims it receives Hoodia "from a certified South African Hoodia Importer," and even lists the CITES permit, license and certificate numbers. However, they don’t provide any random analysis testing to prove that only pure Hoodia is used in their weight loss products. To question number 2, it has never been scientifically or clinically proven that absorbing Hoodia Gordonii through a patch is effective. Furthermore, the patch is made of latex, which is an allergen for some people.
To question number 3, the company does not reveal on their website the actual quantity of Hoodia used in the patch, so it is difficult to tell if an effective amount is used, or not. Also, two other ingredients are mentioned in this product: Citrus Aurantium and Guarana, but again, no ingredient quantities are listed. Citrus Aurantium contains synephrine, which is a stimulant similar to ephedrine and increases blood pressure and heart rate. Guarana is also a known central nervous system stimulant. We do not recommend the use of stimulants in fast weight loss products because of their safety risks, especially with cardiovascular health.
Conclusion: Because of the lack of ingredient quantity information, and the inclusion of stimulants, which are associated with health risks, Weight Loss Guide.com does not recommend the purchase of the Curb Your Cravings Hoodia Patch as part of a weight loss diet.
