AmbeSleep
Overall
Rating
Our Review

AmbeSleep, obviously playing off the name popularity of Ambien, a prescription sleep aid, is supposedly an all natural sleep aid alternative without the side effects of a prescription product. On their website, AmbeSleep mentions a number of respectable sleep aid ingredients, including Valerian, Melatonin, Chamomile, Hops, Passion Flower and others. But they don't actually explicitly say that any of those ingredients are actually in their product, nor do they give any amounts if they were. So it's very difficult to know for sure just what you might be getting if you try this product.

My guess is either they are not putting all of these ingredients in their product, or if they are, they are using miniscule amounts or an inferior quality. Plus they haven't included anything to enhance weight loss like our number one choice. In any case, with all their manipulating marketing tricks, this does not seem like a product to be trusted.

RestAid
Overall
Rating
Our Review

RestAid, by Urban Nutrition, is supposedly clinically proven to help you sleep better. They base this claim on one particular patented ingredient, which is called "Cysteine Milk Peptide." This little known ingredient apparently increases glutathione which can break down stimulants and toxins, such as alcohol and caffeine, that disrupt sleep. Of course not everyone partakes of alcohol and caffeine (including yours truly), and furthermore, many people have allergies with substances derived from milk products.

Although this product also contains some vitamins, Lemon Balm, Melatonin and Hops, none of the ingredient quantities are revealed, so there's no way to know whether they have provided enough to really be effective. And nothing is provided to address weight loss or cravings or blood sugar levels, like our top recommended choice. They do have a 30 day guarantee, but if you read the fine print, you'll notice that you have to jump through all kinds of hoops and pay a restocking fee to even return an unopened product.

Lunexor
Overall

Our Review

Lunexor is another all natural, non-prescription sleep aid that supposedly promotes deep sleep. Lunexor has just 7 ingredients: Phenibut, Melatonin, Hops, Ginger Root, Red Wine Extract, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C. A few of these ingredients are known as respectable sleep inducing ingredients.

Unfortunately, not a single quantity is listed anywhere for any ingredient. So it's hard to say whether they've included enough of any ingredient for effectiveness. Furthermore, Lunexor doesn't include anything for curbing nighttime cravings or balancing blood sugar levels to assist with weight loss, like better products do. So it leaves much to be desired, in our opinion.

Sleep MD
Overall

Our Review

Sleep MD, by Iovate Health Sciences, is another one of those popular sleep aids with a tremendous marketing budget. So you may have seen it or heard of it, but does it work as good as they claim?

Sleep MD lists their sleep-related ingredients under a proprietary blend, so it's impossible to judge whether effective quantities are provided, or not. However, their main active ingredient is melatonin. Customer reviews are mixed. Melatonin works for some people, and doesn't for others. As a side note, this product also contains a number of other undesirable ingredients, including talc, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, sucralose and even artificial colors.

Alluna
Overall

Our Review

Alluna, manufactured by the Swiss company Zeller AG, is another one of those super cheap sleep aids that prove that you get what you pay for. When taking Alluna, you basically get just 2 ingredients: Valerian and Hops. And although they claim these ingredients are clinically proven, Alluna doesn't even contain the amount of ingredients used in any of the studies.

Unfortunately, Alluna also throws in a number of other very undesirable ingredients, such as titanium dioxide, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, artificial coloring and flavoring. And nothing at all to assist with weight loss, like our first choice does. Really, you can do much better than Alluna.

Tylenol PM
Overall
Rating
Our Review

Tylenol PM is another sleep aid that many people unconsciously grab off their cheap drugstore shelf before really looking into it. But just because it may be a household name, doesn't mean it really works or is even healthy for you. In fact, many customers report sleeping worse after taking it and feeling very groggy the next day.

Supposedly, Tylenol PM is specifically for temporarily reducing pain associated with sleeplessness. The main ingredients are Acetaminophen and Diphenhydramine HCl. These do no good whatsoever for your health. Moreover, the inactive ingredients include a barrage of toxic chemicals, preservatives, parabens, artificial colorings, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, propylene glycol and other substances that don't belong anywhere near a human body, much less in one. Furthermore, taking more than 8 pills within 24 hours could result in severe liver damage! It may be cheap and widely available, but that doesn't make it a good product.

Alteril
Overall
Rating
Our Review

Alteril is another highly marketed and supposedly natural sleep aid. But don't give in to their innocent-seeming hype.

For one thing, Alteril contains some undisclosed amounts of melatonin, valerian, some mystery "other" ingredients and – surprise – L-Tryptophan, which has been banned by the FDA since 1990 for numerous serious health affects.

For another thing, Alteril is nothing more than one of those supposed "free trial offer" scams that sucker you into their almost-impossible-to-cancel autoship program and rack up hundreds of dollars on your credit card.  And as if that wasn't enough to scare you away (although it should be), many customers reported migraine headaches, back pain and other undesirable effects from using this product.

Ambien
Overall
Rating
Our Review

We've only listed Ambien and a select number of pharmaceutical sleep aids just because their names are so well known, and we wanted you to see how they rank in comparison. Obviously, we don't highly recommend any kind of toxic chemical pharmaceutical solution when more effective natural solutions are available that are completely addiction and side effect free.

Ambien (Zolpidem Tartrate), by Sanofi-Aventis, may manipulate the neurotransmitters in your brain to induce sleep in some people, but get a load of just a spattering of the numerous side effects: addiction, hallucination, sleepwalking, memory loss, next-day drowsiness, dizziness and headache, abnormal/aggressive behavior, shortness of breath, swelling of tongue or throat, and depression with risk of suicide.

Sonata
Overall
Rating
Our Review

Sonata (Zaleplon), from King Pharmaceuticals, is another example of a well-known toxic chemical pharmaceutical sedative often prescribed by doctors. It makes no sense to me why anyone would ever resort to a pharmaceutical drug with its litany of horrible side effects when healthy and effective natural alternatives abound.

Although meant to help you relax and fall asleep, Sonata may unbalance the chemicals in your brain and actually lead to insomnia. Furthermore, Sonata can impair your thinking, cause aggressive behavior, induce hallucinations, bring on suicidal thoughts, make you feel sleepy, dizzy and headachy the morning after taking it, cause nausea, dry mouth or muscle pain and is habit forming. Allergic reactions can include hives, difficulty breathing and swelling of throat or tongue. This drug is for short term use only, but if you go off it, you may have uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. It's a no-win, all around.
